Building the Digital Backbone of Nepal’s Capital Market: A Conversation with Shreesh Poudel, COO of Source Code

When people think about Nepal’s stock market, they often think of investors, brokers, and listed companies. But behind every trade, every market update, and every digital investment platform lies a layer of technology that keeps the ecosystem running.

For more than a decade, Source Code Pvt. Ltd. has been quietly building that foundation.

Founded in 2011, Source Code has grown into one of Nepal’s leading capital market technology companies, developing solutions for brokers, merchant banks, financial institutions, and investors. Today, the company has deployed more than 50 projects, serves over 60 institutional clients, and continues to push the boundaries of fintech innovation in Nepal.

We spoke with Shreesh Poudel, Chief Operating Officer of Source Code, about the company’s journey, the evolution of Nepal’s capital market, and how technology is reshaping the future of investing.

The Startup Nepal: Source Code has been operating in Nepal’s financial technology space for over a decade. How did the journey begin?

Shreesh Poudel: When we started in 2011, Nepal’s capital market was in a very different stage. Many processes were still manual, and there was a clear gap between what market participants needed and the technology available to support them.

We saw an opportunity to build technology specifically designed for Nepal’s financial market. Rather than simply adapting foreign solutions, we wanted to create products that understood local regulations, market structures, and user behavior. That vision continues to guide us today.

The Startup Nepal: What makes building technology for capital markets different from traditional software development?

Shreesh Poudel: Capital markets are highly specialized. It’s not enough to be a good software company—you also need a deep understanding of financial systems, compliance requirements, operational workflows, and market behavior.

Our team spends significant time understanding the challenges faced by brokers, merchant bankers, institutions, and investors. That combination of domain expertise and technology capability allows us to build solutions that solve real problems rather than simply digitizing existing processes.

The Startup Nepal: Source Code is often described as an infrastructure company for the capital market. What does that mean?

Shreesh Poudel: Infrastructure companies are often invisible to end users, but they play a critical role in enabling the ecosystem.

We build systems that support different stakeholders across the market—from data platforms and analytics solutions to digital onboarding, compliance tools, and AI-powered investment technologies. Our goal is to make financial information more accessible, actionable, and efficient for everyone involved.

If the technology works well, people may never notice it. But the market depends on it every day.

The Startup Nepal: Data and artificial intelligence are becoming major themes globally. How is Source Code approaching this trend?

Shreesh Poudel: Financial markets generate enormous amounts of data. The challenge isn’t collecting information—it’s helping people make sense of it.

We’re increasingly focused on using analytics and AI to transform raw market data into meaningful insights. Whether it’s helping institutions make better operational decisions or helping investors understand market trends, intelligent use of data will become one of the biggest differentiators in the future.

AI is not replacing human decision-making; it’s enhancing it.

The Startup Nepal: What are some of the biggest challenges facing Nepal’s capital market today?

Shreesh Poudel: One challenge is information accessibility. Financial data exists, but it is often fragmented and difficult for investors to interpret.

Another challenge is creating greater confidence through transparency and technology. As the market grows, participants expect faster, more secure, and more intelligent systems.

The good news is that Nepal’s capital market has made tremendous progress over the past decade. We are seeing stronger digital adoption, increasing investor participation, and greater demand for technology-driven solutions.

The Startup Nepal: What role do companies like Source Code play in Nepal’s financial future?

Shreesh Poudel: Our mission is to connect the dots across Nepal’s financial market ecosystem and provide technology that helps people make better decisions.

We believe technology should reduce complexity, improve accessibility, and create opportunities for growth. Whether it’s a broker serving thousands of clients or an individual investor making an investment decision, the right technology can create meaningful impact.

Ultimately, our vision is to elevate the investment acumen of participants throughout Nepal’s financial market and contribute to building a stronger, smarter, and more connected financial ecosystem.

The Startup Nepal: What excites you most about the next five years?

Shreesh Poudel: The pace of innovation.

We’re entering an era where AI, advanced analytics, digital identity, and intelligent automation will fundamentally change how financial services operate. Nepal has an opportunity to adopt these technologies strategically and create solutions tailored to our own market realities.

At Source Code, we’re excited to continue building for that future.

While many fintech startups focus on consumer-facing products, companies like Source Code are building the infrastructure that powers the broader financial ecosystem. As Nepal’s capital market continues to mature, that behind-the-scenes innovation may prove just as important as the next investment app or trading platform.

And for Shreesh Poudel and his team, the mission remains clear: using technology to make Nepal’s financial markets more efficient, transparent, and intelligent for everyone involved.
